topology and manifold

In the past, I’ve used a GIS called manifold. I’ve often wondered why it’s called that. Apparently, when you’re in the 3D world, the terminology can be a little different. When you’re cleaning the topology of the data that you’re working on (ie, trim lines, connect vertices), the equivalent in 3d is “manifold geometry”. It’s weird, but since I’ve been using sketchup, the 3d arena can be challenging with terminology.
